GOD, is that YOU? (PART 2)

GOD, is that YOU? (Part 2)

Matt 14:22-33

ESP vs 27-28

As I go through this passage of Scripture there are some interesting truths that I realized…

These are mainly based on the instruction Come

Let’s go straight into it…

1.        HIS WORD IS ABLE TO PERFORM

Peter got out of the boat and instead of sinking he started walking on water

Why?

The word cannot say come and you fail to come!

You certainly cannot be arrested by nature on the way!

This is regardless of the path you have to follow…

What is the Rhema word that you have received in this season?

The condition of the path does not matter…

Jesus did not need to create a dual lane highway in the water

Come, anyway!

He makes a way where there is none in your eyes…

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Isa 43:19

Even if it means you have to walk on water to fulfill the word!

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isa 55:11

His word never fails!

               2.           THE SIMPLICITY OF THE WORD

Most preachers feel big when they bombard us with verbosity. Focusing more on telling us words which we never knew existed rather than the core of the gospel…

The word works just like that, in its simplicity, Peter was not given any hard instructions, just 1 word-Come!

\We should also learn to take the word in its simplest, purest form, undiluted, no extras, not modified to suit our egos or ambitions.

Let’s talk to the preachers for a bit…

Consider the case of Jonah…

2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

Jonah 3:2

What was the message ?

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

Jonah 3:4

What was the result ?

5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

Jonah 3:5

What kind of word are you preaching?

Is it the preaching that he bade thee?

Peter says Bid me that I come to you on the water

So there can be a Bidding for an instruction to you or for a message for His people!

One sure way to tell if God bid thee is the results that follow…

Are the results as per expectation from God’s perspective?

The results could be as expected from your perspective (applause, standing ovation, a fat offering, fame, acceptance from the audience) what about from God’s perspective?

Let me leave it here…

The word from the Master was not Oh Peter, come but be careful!

There were No Disclaimers.

The word of God works every time, we are the ones who put disclaimers on the word. In so doing, we then make it out to be what it is not

Take for instance,

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:9

The word does not say if you can at least stay for a month without sinning. If that were the case, who would qualify ?

Is it then not a wonder that we fail to achieve certain things because we fail to take the word as is ?

               3.           THE KEY…BELIEVE

Master, bid me that I come to you…

The Lord’s response was not are you sure?

Peter believed he could do what the Lord was doing

In turn, Jesus did not doubt Peter could walk on water, as long as he believed. Hallelujah!

You too can do so much more, you can defy the odds as long as you stand on the word - no disclaimers- believe!

1.        THE PERFECT MIRROR

He did not say bid me that I swim to you

Swim was not a miracle in this case. These were experienced fishermen, presumably they could swim! But still if he was a good swimmer, he could swim to Jesus!

He did not say shall I fly to you… which could have presumably been a new miracle altogether !

How are you setting your standards as you walk with Him?

We should only set our standards as we look at His standard.

Consider the example set by Jesus…

19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

John 5:19

As we look into the mirror of His word and we follow His example, may we do so perfectly!

Do we agree that Peter had the capacity to believe for walking on water?

Yes…No wonder he was the only one who came out of the boat!

But With all that capacity, he had not tried this before he saw the Lord set an example.

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Acts 10:38

The Lord Jesus healed the sick and He cast out demons.

What are you believing for today? Where did you get your standard from ?

Some are believing for success in for instance, career.  Is your benchmark to surpass your friend X so that they call you successful ?

What is the Master’s standard for you?

Conclusion

There are some very important lessons for us to learn from this Passage where Jesus walks on water

His word is able to perform even in its simplest form. Come in this instance… The key for us is to believe it as it is… Remembering that whatever standard we set in our lives must be as per what the Word says to us whether His Rhema or Logos…
